SPORTIME Hempstead Lake Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a member to play on the courts at Hempstead Lake?
Answer: No. There are no membership requirements in order to play at Hempstead Lake. Players must, however, create SPORTIME accounts in order to reserve courts online.
Do SPORTIME Members get priority booking or discounted court time?
Answer: No. All players pay the same court fees and have the same opportunities to reserve courts.
Can I reserve a tennis or pickleball court in advance?
Answer: Yes. Once players set up their free SPORTIME accounts, they can log in to view court availability and to reserve court-time up to 3 days in advance.
Are there any limitations on how many courts I can reserve per day?
Answer: Yes. Players may make or participate in one (1) advance court reservation per day, of up to two hours in duration, and any additional court-time should be reserved and used on a walk-on basis, when available
Can I just show up and reserve a court?
Answer: Yes. There will be several courts allocated for drop-in rentals and if additional courts are not being used, they will be made available for drop-in rentals too.
Are there limitations as to how many courts I can reserve or for how long?
Answer: Yes. Players may only make one court reservation per day. Courts may be reserved for a maximum of 2 consecutive hours.
If my court is open after my time is up, can I just stay and continue playing?
Answer: No. Players must vacate their court when their time is up. Additional hours of court time may then be reserved, if available.
When do I pay for my court?
Answer: Players who choose to reserve courts in advance, either online or by phone, will be required to pay their court fees at the time of booking. Those who wish to drop-in, will be required to pay their court fees at our Welcome Center prior to play.
Do I have to pay to enter the park?
Answer: Not for tennis or pickleball use. New York State will no longer require parking fees for those who enter field #2 to play tennis or pickleball at SPORTIME.
What are the hours when I can play tennis and pickleball?
Answer: Hours will vary based upon court surface and time of year. Please see the “Court Information & Guidelines” section of our website for more information.
Can I join a clinic or take a lesson?
Answer: Yes. Tennis and pickleball players can register for private instruction and/or group clinics based upon our weekly schedule. Players may only participate in lessons with a SPORTIME tennis or pickleball coach. Please go back and view our website for more information.
Will I be able to purchase tennis balls, pickleballs or other equipment and supplies at the club?
Answer: Yes. We will have a pro shop area located in our Welcome Center to accommodate player needs.
Is Wifi available?
Answer: Yes, free Wifi is available. Stop by the front desk for network information and a password.
Can I use a ball machine on court? Are they available for rental?
Answer: No. We do not provide or allow ball machines on our courts And teaching carts may only be used when taking a SPORTIME lesson or clinic.
Are courts available during holidays? Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day?
Answer: SPORTIME clubs are open on holidays, but special hours may apply. Please check the club homepage for updates.
When does the Season begin and end?
Answer: The 2024 season will begin on Monday, April 1st and the closing date will be in October 2024, with a specific date yet to be determined.
Are courts lighted for nighttime play?
Answer: No. Hempstead Lake does not have court lighting.
Am I able to play at any SPORTIME location?
Answer: SPORTIME locations welcome non-members for court rentals and for some programs, but non-members pay significantly higher rates than members. For more information about joining SPORTIME, please contact a staff member at Hempstead Lake and they will be happy to assist you.
